Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
Did you have to Re-start the truck after installing each file?
I'm not sure if you have to but I did, after each file was installed it displayed a message, updates will take effect after you restart. I pulled the usb and waited for the screen to come back on (it goes black after each step and turns back on). then I turned off the truck waited a couple of min and proceeded with the next file.
Thanks for the help whoever suggested it...just needed to hook my phone up via USB and it worked fine. I have to say though, I am a little disappointed. There was no way to play any of the music on my phone...the only android auto apps were play music and android music. I did some googling today and I tihnk MDplayer is an app that is supposed to enable playing of local music through android auto. Downloaded to my phone but havent tried it out yet. FWIW, this app is not listed when I look in the google play store at AndroidAuto apps.
Also disappointing was the response time when doing anything (maps/directions or using apps)....not sure if thats processing power in the head unit since it wasnt designed with this use in mind, latency in the interconnect, or maybe it was just my phone acting up since thatsprobalby where most of the processing is taking place.. Time will tell if I find the whole android auto thing (in its current iteration) to be any better than my phone connected to sync using bluetooth.

Sorry guys for this late to the game question and I did try to find the answer but couldn't... so... is there a different download for apple CarPlay and android? I downloaded the upgrade but in settings I only see settings for android and I have an apple. Can anyone confirm this. And I still haven't swapped out the USB module so maybe that's it?
With the new download I re did the update again just following the web site instructions and following the onscrene command and the install went clean with no problems and except for the Gracenote missing a version number, all is good. I have a case number from problems I had yesterday trying to install the update, so when I hear back with any news I'll let you all know.
Just thought I'd post up my update. I was going to use the 16280 update posted by a member on Google docs, but the 17011 update popped up last Sunday(from Ford) so I downloaded that as well. I unzipped it to a 32gb USB drive. I put the ignition in run and inserted the drive. The original notes stated that it would take an hour so I left the ignition in run and exited the truck (the motor was NOT running). It continued to display updating for quite some time. When I finally came back to the vehicle, the display was blank so I removed the drive and switched the ignition to off. I closed the door and waited 10 minutes before re-entering the vehicle and switching the ignition to run. This is when I got the bad file prompt with the software version still showing 1.0 (this is a non-nav vehicle). I tried re-downloading and unzipping the update from Ford but had the same results. At this point I figured that I might as well try the 16280 update that I had on two 4gb USB drives. I put in the drive that had the first part of the update and got the bad file prompt. Just for the heck of it I put in the drive that had the second part of the 16280 update and it started updating. It finally said update complete and would complete when I re-started the vehicle. I switched the ignition to off and exited the vehicle and closed the door. I came back 30 min later started the vehicle and got a confirmation that SYNC was updated to 2.2. I now have android auto and voice commands. The only issue is that the version displayed is 2.2 16280 and not 17011, but as long as android auto is working I don't care. I switched off auto updating just in case that might cause a problem. So for those who are getting the bad file prompt, try the second part of the 16280 update. I'd be interested in seeing if this works for anyone else. I never had the engine running through any of this process. I just had the ignition in the run position. I didn't worry about battery drain as I had my truck hooked up to a deltran battery tender plus.
I must have gotten screwed up files from the Ford site. I have broken them apart and loaded them a couple of times with no luck. On the last file the thumb drive stops flickering long before it says installation complete. It starts and then stops. So Pffft.. Of course there is no download for me on the site any longer because I used it. I looked for a download on this site but can't find a link that works so I'm
ed. I've got a ticket number from Ford so I guess I will wait to hear from them. No gracenote and no AA. It's worse than before the "upgrade" thanks a lot.
