Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
Hi everybody,
I live in Quebec, Canada, and I speak french, and my english writing is just correct. I want to thanks everyone share information about how to upgrade sync 3 and the Apple Car works on my F150 2016. First, I follow your instructions step by step to update the software from 1.1 to 2.2. I ordered the USB hub from web site in Canada http://www.eastgatefordpartscanada.ca/. I ordered the USB with the blue back light MODULE - INTERFACE - FORD (HC3Z-19A387-B) but they didn't have in stock so I ordered the USB hub with the white back light MODULE - INTERFACE - FORD (GJ7Z-19A387-B) on Sunday and I receive today. Fast shipping. Cost 71.74$ CAD + Quebec tax 3.59$ CAD+ Shipping 17.50$ CAD Total: 92.83$ CAD. I plug the USB hub and everything works very well. Thanks for your help!

Found this on the owner.ford.com website. This is specific for the 2016 F-150.

As you go through it, notice they list remote access via Sync Connect and LTE or ATT. I'm pretty sure they listed it wrong. But it can be fun to hit a service writer with a printed copy.

Use the link I posted and it will let you pick vehicle year. Just tried my posted link and it works. Sync 3 only shows up for 2016/17. 2016 is specific about having Sync Connect.

Got my backordered USB hub in finally, installed it at a red light on the way home from the dealer because I am impatient... As soon as I plugged in the phone, had CarPlay in action. Map on screen on my non nav 2016 XLT with Sync 3 and satisfied that my plan of not purchasing nav finally worked...
Tried the 2.2 installation this morning.
Install failed. Got the following message:
Installation Failed
The installation has run out of space or does not work with this version
Not sure what happened. Downloaded the w/Nav file and copied files to Formatted Fat 32 16GB PNY USB Stick.
SYNC 3 Version 1.0

2016 F-150 requires a "USB Hub" (HC3Z-19A387-B or GJ7Z-19A387-B) for 2.2 Update... what does this Hub do?
The software always states there are no updates pending, is this because my current Hub is improper version?

You should be able to do the update first using your existing usb hub (that is what I did so I can test to see if my hub was the correct one, it wasn't)
The new USB hub is required if you want to use carplay with iphone, I am not sure whats exactly different but there is a physical difference between the new hub and the one in your car (some newer models do come with the correct one)

Can you point me to documentation on removing the Hub I'll check my hub hardware version. As I've mentioned, anytime I do software update check there isn't one.
