I have a column shift and like it. It opens up the console area, although since I haven't had an F150 with a console shift I can't be sure. My Frontier had a console shift and it took up a lot of room unnecessarily. I have the bucket seats with the middle console, so it doesn't add passenger space at all for me. But 95% of my driving is alone so I don't need the room. I doubt I will ever even need to fold the rear seats down for passengers.

I will say if I was shifting manually much, I'd prefer the console. Whether just for my height or where I have the wheel set or whatever, I can't see the manual shift button unless I lean my head over so its just not easy to hand (XLT no paddle shifter!)

I've had both and much prefer the console. Yes it takes up a little bit of room but looks and feels much more stylish. Column shifter just feels like a work truck to me.

I don't think I'll ever carry 6 people so the extra seat isn't an issue.

column shift has nothing to do with a jump seat in the middle

Not sure I understand? Yes you can get a console and a column shifter but you can't have a console shifter and carry 6 people?

The console (with or without shifter) removes the middle front seat, so you can only accommodate 2 people in the front seats, three in the rear for a total of five.

I get that, that's why I said I prefer console and won't ever carry 6 people so the extra seat isn't an issue.

I'm just trying to understand how the column shifter has nothing to do with the extra seat? The only way to get the extra seat is to have a column shifter?

You can get a column shifter with both bench and captain's chair .. so your need to not carry 6 people can happen with a column shifter as well

One of my requirements when looking for a truck was console shifter. That ruled out the Ram. After owning the truck with the console shifter for over a year I think my next truck will be a column shifter. So much wasted space with a console shifter.

My 2020 Supercrew FX4 has the full console with column shifter, I like having the extra room on the console. When I was looking, the console was a requirement, but would've been fine with the console shift or column. My 2007 had the console with column shift too so I guess I was already accustomed to it.
