Default Broken Driver's Window

I've never had this happen before. I was driving in Dallas on TX 121 last Friday when I heard a sharp crack--the sound that normally accompanies at least a star chip on the windshield. I looked it over carefully and didn't see anything from the inside. After I stopped I checked it over and still didn't see anything.

I went out to the truck Sunday and the driver's window was cracked. I felt along it and found a chip where something hit it. It had to thread the small opening between the mirror and A pillar to hit the window. We had a big temperature swing on Saturday night and I'm thinking that caused the chip to expand into a crack. It's right at $300 for a new window installed.

Your comprehensive coverage would handle that, and some policies have zero deductible or a different deductible for glass. Comprehensive claims don't increase your premiums.

I don't have glass replacement coverage.

Side glass is supposed to be tempered. Very strange that it did not either shatter into tiny pieces or crack into tiny segments.

^^ these trucks have laminated front glass for sound deadening/blocking. So their construction is like the windshield rather than the back and rear door glass which is tempered.

Front windows are laminated, rear windows (crew) are tempered. I've replaced one of each (same incident, break-in).

The glass installer said my side window is laminated. You can't feel the crack on the inside. I even rolled the window down to go through the drive through at Starbucks this morning.

If you read the markings on it, it's laminated acoustic glass (supposed to be quieter). Not sure why rear glass isn't...

Mine just cracked this morning. That's the 2nd one in 3 or 4 months. Can a guy get a tempered replacement rather than the laminated?

Not sure, but the tempered would just shatter into a million pieces instead of cracking.
