Default Backing up with tailgate down

When ever I backup with my tailgate down my backup sensors beep at me. Is this normal?

It's really annoying and this is the first truck I've owned that's done this.

It is the norm. Once the tailgate is down, the reverse sensors on the bumper are reading something in close proximity (tailgate). There is no sensor in the truck to tell itself that the tailgate is down.

I thought it would be a good idea to have some type of sensor that would let you know when the tailgate is down. Ive always had a tonneau cover, and occasionally ive left the tailgate down forgetting to close it. Looking out the rearview you cant tell with the cover closed. 2

Silly. Pretty positive my 2014 sierra didnt do this. If it did it was definitely not as obnoxious of a beep.

Mine has a on/off pop up when I put it in reverse. It's simply two buttons to push to stop it.

Ya, I'll have to remember to do that.

Use my other key fob to do what? I keep one of my keys hidden in the truck and the other in my pocket.

Probably one of my biggest annoyances. I do a lot of backing up with a trailer or my tailgate down because well... my truck is used as a truck and it's pretty annoying trying to back up my driveway or the boat ramp with that thing beeping at you so I have to go turn it off which takes time.

I can see it's advantages but if there's away to turn the chime off by default I'd make that change.
