Default Auto Start/Stop issue

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but I’ve searched and couldn’t find anything...

Anyone have issues with their Auto Start/Stop feature working intermittently? Yes, I’m coming to a full stop, foot on brake, not moving, still in forward gear, blah, blah, blah. It stopped working a couple weeks ago and I really didn’t notice it because I drove my truck very little during that time, and it was almost all interstate anyways. So I called the dealership and made an appointment for next week. At the time I called and made the appointment, it was 44* outside, and I couldn’t get the feature to work, at all. Tried it more than a dozen times that day, right before I called them. And I also toggled the dash switch at least a dozen times, and confirmed the instrument panel message, each time.

Fast forward to this evening when I went out to run some errands, and the damn thing was working perfect. Flawlessy for an hour or so in traffic. I checked it with brakes applied and at a full stop, wheels turned in both directions, going uphill to 3%, downhill 4%, turn signals on in both/either directions, engine temp in normal range (trans temp at about 176*-180* range) all the while, the outside temp was only 29*. Each time I checked it, it worked flawlessly after being stopped for a three-one thousand count. This went on for most of the time I was out. Then all of a sudden, for about the last ten times, it didn't work for about half of them. No rhyme or reason, no pattern... it just didn’t work. And each of those times, I sat still for over ten seconds waiting for the engine to shut down, before releasing the brake pedal.

Anyone else experience anything like this? I’m still taking it in, but just kinda puzzled with what’s going on.

You say you drove the truck very little at first? Maybe the battery needed more run time to get it charged enough?

Mine is intermittent also - sometimes it will work when I get to town at every stop - other times it won't shut off at all. There is a lot involved - many parameters must be just right for it to work. The biggest thing is the state of battery charge. But I can go a distance steadily on a 55 mph road for 45 minutes where you think the battery would be plenty charged but it won't shut off.

Doesn't bother me in the least - there is nothing to diagnose in my opinion - just that way it is.

These trucks need to be driven, a lot, to keep the battery at peak level. Running errands doesn't do that. One 45 minute drive doesn't do that.

I got tired of messages all winter (much less in summer) when I turned it off that the radio was shutting down to protect the battery. Got a Battery Tender, ran the plug to my left wheel well, and keep it plugged in.

If you drive to/from work daily for a half hour or more, you probably are fine. My truck is used once a week or so.

There is a screen under Trip/Fuel tab that has some info about what auto start/stop thinks. I've seen things like engine warming and charging that will keep it running.

I didn’t realize that screen is there - will have to monitor that the next time in town.

Thanks!

I can appreciate the feedback regarding the low-voltage concerns, but I don’t believe that’s the issue. When I say “driven very little”, I mean by comparison of my typical use. I bought the truck new in July and almost have 12,000 miles on it. But in the two weeks I’m referring to, I’ve only driven it about 700 miles, and over 95% of that was at 70 mph, for 50+ miles each time.

I’m aware of that screen and moniter it frequently, there’s been zero issue messages displayed. There’s an issue here, but I don’t believe it’s from insufficient voltage. Without getting too technical, detailed or lengthy, it’s getting driven plenty and for over 50+ miles each trip, and daily. Yesterday evening it started working perfectly, even when I first started out (after sitting outdoors for 24 hours at below freezing temps). So by the time I was just about home (after 70+ miles), I just kept driving around the neighborhood, to see if it would fail. That’s when it acted up several times, by not shutting down the engine at stop signs, intermitently. One or two stops, it worked perfectly. Go another one and maybe it wouldn’t. It did this off and on for well over a dozen stops. Like I said, I think there’s an issue, but I don’t believe it’s a legitimate under-voltage situation.

Back to my initial inquiry, and without over-analyzing the aforementioned voltage concerns; Has anyone else experienced any intermittent behavior of the auto start/stop feature?

Mine stopped working a while back. It would shut the engine off, then immediately start back up & not shut off again.
Took it to the dealer & it turned out to be some kind of pump in the transmission was going bad. From my understanding it keeps the trans fluid under pressure while the engine is off due to the start/stop feature. They replaced the pump under warranty & haven’t had another issue (currently 121k miles now, I remember it happening at around 50k miles or so).

Could be something completely different in your case, just an option to consider.
