Yeah it’s updated but how often? Do you have to pay for map upgrades?

What? We still have the maps that came with the truck (they are 2014 maps) and there have been zero updates. And they normally cost around $150 for each update traditionally.

But there are threads elsewhere on that. Don't want to morph into that here.

We don't have SD readers anymore since they went to Sync 3. Those are for older model cars up to the first part of the 2015 model. And they aren't actually 2018 maps. That is a secondary vendor making things sound better than it is.

And they are normally $149.

Ford lists them up to 2017 models. I'm not certain how the update is done. Over the air maybe. BTW, you can get those well below the list price. I ran a map from a third party supplier in my 2015 truck and it was the Ford Nav system map. 50-70.00 seems to be the norm.

I think I need more coffee because I interpreted your post wrong. I don't think I've heard of a manufacturer not updating their maps but maybe that's because of the switch to sync 3 which includes apple maps, waze, and google maps.

You didn't misread anything. We have version NA 1 14 (2014 map). And Ford has not had HERE provide an update for the maps, whatever the reasoning or lack thereof.

The website shows how much can change in just 18 months :

During 18 months approximately

  • 535,462
    miles of road
  • 782,503
    street names
  • 110,098
    turn restrictions
  • 6,513
    roundabouts
  • 148,820
    one way streets
  • 18,936
    sections of interstates
  • 34,844
    road directional signs
  • 178,594
    speed limits
have been added or amended

http://ford.navigation.com/cms/page...._US/FordNA/USD

Apple maps, Google maps, WAZE all change that regularly. But we see some of the aforementioned issues in this thread.

Again, sorry for letting the original post morph into all this.

I have navigation so apple maps is fairly worthless for me. I do love the interface tho of apple maps on the dash BUT for some stupid reason I can't for the life of me figure out how to get an overhead 3D view of my vehicle/route. If just cruising with no destination apple maps shows the 3D overhead view but if i put a destination in I have an overhead flat map that doesn't rotate.. It's a fixed map and zoomed out as much to fit the whole route in the view and you can see the arrow (vehicle) move along the proposed drive line. It's so stupid and worthless..

Otherwise I honestly see no need for apple CarPlay unless you use Siri often.

....still waiting for FordPass to let me look up a destination on the map and send the location directly to my vehicle via wireless phone the same time I remote start my vehicle via the phone......

You don't need CarPlay to use Siri, just hold down the voice command button on the steering wheel to activate it. I have the Sync2, and no CarPlay, and that's how I talk to Siri...

I have sync 3 and when I push the voice button, it activates the sync voice command but not Siri. The only way I can use Siri is if I have my iPhone plugged in and I'm using Carplay.
