Any Sync 3 maps updates coming?
I asked last year on this forum, about map updates. My opinion is that we are entitled to the latest maps available when we purchase the vehicle. If I buy a $9.95 app I get the latest maps at the time I buy it... but for a $60K vehicle I don't.
Of course, that is not the way Ford works.
And it also appears that there is still no map update available for Ford 2016 F-150's, even though I am sure the 2017 vehicles have their map build already... so, the question is... are the 2017's using the same 18 month old maps as the 2016's, or do they have newer maps but Ford has just not made the update available to 2016 owners.. even at a cost? Either one is terrible... especially knowing that Here has probably had thousands and thousands of updates since my Sync 3 unit was built.
Come on auto makers... if you make more frequent updates available at a reasonable cost, I bet you will make as much or more money than charging $150 for a yearly map update like Honda does, and have much greater customer satisfaction... hell, why not a subscription service so the updates just flow like firmware updates... although firmware ain't exactly flowin' either... I have no idea what Ford charges since I don't have an update available.
With CarPlay And Android Auto becoming available, and apps that give REAL-TIME, ALWAYS CURRENT map updates for $9.95 / year, the days of the $150 yearly map update are gone... why not get ahead of it and provide a competing service in both price and update frequency?
I don't expect an answer... just thinking out loud.

A lot of the new systems are using Navteq which updates every 2 years. My Harley Road Glide has Q2 13 maps in it and it's a 2015. They have an update but I don't use it enough to spend the $150 to update it. My wife's 14 Explorer is still running the same map that came with it and it gets us where we need to go.

Updates for the maps will still be provided by HERE. They can be reached at 888-628-6277. I do understand your concern with that particular process. Please provide your feedback here: social.ford.com

ford.navigation.com is HERE. No map updates available.
HERE has had thousands of updates in the last 18 mo since my Sync 3 was built with its early 2015 map revision... they say they only build and sell the updates... but Ford tells them WHEN to build them and at what PRICE to sell them. Any idea WHEN Ford will trigger an update to be available?
How will the update be done? HERE said SD or DVD, neither of which make sense for Sync 3. File download and USB update makes the most sense... or WiFi download... does Sync 3 have the ability to do WiFi download of map updates once available?
