I downloaded the Amazon app and on my iPhone and that works via Bluetooth.

I know it's not the same but it plays the 418 songs I've selected (so far), not downloaded. Part of my Prime membership. Great deal and works extremely well for me.

Being a brand-new iPhone user (yes, my first one thanks to Microsoft shutting down the phone game), I don't understand Apple play or CarPlay, or why you need it... I've been playing Spotify over Bluetooth, and my texts come in through the Sync2 system where I can have it read to me with voice, or read it on the screen. I can also access Siri over the Bluetooth.

What benefit does this CarPlay thing bring? The truck has maps already (built-in navigation), and a contacts list imported from my phone, etc... Just curious if there's something I'm missing. Only benefit I can see is having maps if you don't have the built-in navigation...

I don't have factory nav so I can use it from my apple phone and it shows up on the screen and talks over the radio for turn by turn instructions. So if you have factory nav, less of a benifit.

I’m with you, and I actually prefer Sync 2. Between Sync and Siri I’m in great shape.

The big plus for CarPlay is that it allows you to control the device from the truck’s head unit rather than having to use the phone. It also allows Siri activation with the head unit.

I also prefer Apple maps to the built in navigation because it’s far easier to search for points of interest, etc. CarPlay isn’t perfect but it’s way better than the truck’s infotainment system.

The biggest thing is Apple Maps on your screen and having touch control of your phone. It's a definite upgrade over the Apple Play available with Sync 2. Don't forget with Sync 2 you do have access to Siri and you can text, make phone calls, and run Apple Maps via voice commands.

Apple maps is updated constantly for free which is a huge bonus.
