Android Auto Update
Appears that mine is working now and not shutting off after opening.
Had to clear cache and data then uninstall (again) the app. Then unpaired my phone from the truck.
I installed AA app, went through the app setup and repaired phone to truck. Did all this without being plugged in.
Then plugged in and went through the setup for AA with the truck.
Don't know why/if all that was necessary but it seems to be the only thing that kept it from crashing for the 15 minutes I was playing with it.

Well it seems I spoke too soon. Drove the truck and AA shut off again after a few minutes. Then shuts off immediately when I unplug and plug in again.
Thought maybe it was my cord or even the USB plug losing connectivity. But if I turn off the update in the settings it runs the old version without any problems.
Disappointing, but I think it's just a glitchy update.

I've found that my F-150 seems to be somewhat fussy with regard to USB cables. I had an older USB C cable that I've used without issue that simply would not work with my phone. I replaced it with a coiled USB C cable from Amazon and it works just fine. I'm guessing that either it's expecting specific signals on pins that it's not seeing, or it's possibly wanting different voltages than some cables are capable of carrying.
I'm using a cord that's been fine for data between phone (S10e) and computer, but might break out the Samsung cord it came with and try it. Although it seems to work fine if I use the old AA version.
Go to app manager
Tap on Android Auto
Tap on Storage
Tap on clear data
Tap on clear cache
Go back one screen and "force stop"
Go back to the AA app icon on your phone and start normally.
I believe this exact sequence has worked for numerous people including myself.
Hope it helps. Good luck.
(I would reinstall the app and reboot before doing any of this if you left it uninstalled)
I would say the same. Leave it installed and unfortunately wait it out.
It could be two more weeks for some.
I don't know if the version of android you're running, is the delay in some cases.

(and don't restart your phone after you force stop the app. That will just enable it to start again.)
Samsung S8 - had to do the clear data and cache and force stop steps outlined above but just tested in truck and looks like it works fine. Defaults to last app you had - in my case I selected Waze and afterwards it defaulted to Waze upon start-up. Would be nice to be able to delete some of the icons that are displayed like calendar I never use - probably a setting somewhere for this.
I tried that, multiple times. I never get the "try new version" to appear.
OK, finally got so spend some time with it driving today... Waze was all screwed-up.... Now, the fix could have was either clearing all the Waze data, OR, got the August Android 9 update... It was probably clearing the data, but just throwing the update as possible fix.
