Android Auto & Google Maps
- Upgraded sync 3 to version 2.2 yesturday.
- Installed Android Auto & Google Maps on my Samsung Galaxy S5
- Opened google maps on my phone & downloaded a "Custom Area" Map
To my surprise everything works very well Offline, you can get turn by turn directions offline but just cannot search with voice or touchscreen.
Today i decided to turn on data and see how much of a data pig google maps is...3 hrs of driving and a couple searches & navigation experiments only used .01GB ( 10 megabytes )
I didn't have any connection issues whatsoever, as soon as i connect my phone to the trucks usb port android auto fires up.
You can easily switch to Sync on the touchscreen then back to Android Auto or whatever...
Driving with the map screen on listening to tunes through the second usb port for the most part.
Listening to tunes and navigating worked great as well, voice commands worked perfect, simply lowers volume, blurts out your turn then back to music...
Maps are a little plain but accuracy is very good and thats whats important, the maps on a computer or my phone do have more detail than viewing via Android Auto but no big deal..
I didn't expect much but its rather Slick.

I've had great success with Android Auto/Google Maps and streaming Pandora or Spotify. It is sooo slick, and free! I haven't tried doing the "Off-Line" thing yet. Thank you Ford for allowing this!
Good to hear it's not a data hog. I played with it a bit when I first jumped to V2.2, but haven't been using it much since.
Had a span of a couple weeks where AA repeatedly disconnected, screen would go back to Sync3, but phone showed AA still connected. Should give it another try.

Is there a way to have the earth view on maps like if you were using your phone?
