Default Ambient Light Sensor & Dash Button Back Lights

The dash buttons for my radio and HVAC controls are impossible to read during the daytime. Look solid black with no back lighting at all. Anyone know how to make button backlight come on during the day without covering up the ambient light sensor that also makes the headlights come on? The buttons are backlit when its dark--why can't they be during the day? Dimmer switch and othe MFT settings have no effect. Is there a FORSCAN code I can modify?

They’re not lit during daytime because the light would wash out in the daylight. No point to lighting them since you wouldn’t be able to see the light anyway.

Not true and why bother to comment with a non-answer? You made an assumption based on your experience and offered no resolution. I happen to have very dark tinted windows that keep the cab dim during the day.

Adjust that lighting from the settings in the infotainment system (not the buttons next to your headlight controls). Set the daytime separate from the nighttime setting....doing each one separately.
To do that, you’ll select day...then adjust that brightness. Next, select night....then adjust that brightness. After you finish, set it back to auto and you’re done.

Unfortunately I have already been down that road and it does not change the button backlighting at all---only for the screen itself. Thank you

Perhaps what is happening since your windows are quite dark is it is tripping the light sensor and turning the lights on. This would dim the backlighting to be easier on your eyes at night. Try turning the headlight **** to 'Off' and see if that helps.

Try turning this one up:

That one should turn up the brightness of the backlights behind the physical buttons.

You have to have the headlights on for them to come on at all though.

Turning the headlights "off" makes no difference.

I don't want to run my headlights during the daytime though and covering the ambient light sensor causes the headlights to be on as well with the side effect of dimming all the other lights.

Need a simple forscan code switch to turn the backlights on and not change anything else.

You can turn off the ambient light sensor in Forscan, so says the spreadsheet. I have not tried this, nor do I know how it affects the headlights. YMMV and all that.
