Default adding trailer brake controller

Is the factory trailer brake controller plug and play or does it require forescan changes.

Can anybody provide details on the process. Do you have to wires? I have the factory tow package

ForScan needed to enable. Many videos on the install, no wiring. It took me 45 minutes.

Just be sure you buy a genuine Ford controller. The Amazon and Ebay knockoffs have caused problems.

Mine was factory. But after using Forscan, it appears you have to activate it the ITBC in order to integrate it into your truck computer system and dash display. However, the brake controller should work like an aftermarket TBC, just no digital display of functions.

Do you already have FORscan? I installed ITBC control switch and can't get registered on FORScan.org

I had my dealer install it. In and out in less than an hour, and it works perfectly.

I installed the trailer brake controller over the weekend. I was a little concerned about breaking some trim pieces pulling them apart, but it was super easy. FYI- you don't need to take the kick panel off to access the trailer brake controller. It pulls right out when you take the center trim off.

also got a 2 month free trial of the extended Forscan license from their website to activate it. While I was at it decided to adjust tire size. My truck came with 265/70/18 tires new from the dealership. I now run 275/70/18's. When I went into forescan the tire diameter was set at 2480 mm which is the equivalent of a 245 tire. No wonder I have not been pulled over for speeding (knock on wood). After adjusting it was speedo is now reading about 1-2 mph fast and my mpg has gone up from 16.2 to almost 18 on the lie-o-meter. No wonder I could only fill up 19 gallons on empty. The truck was telling me I was empty when I wasn't due to wrong tire size in the computer.

too bad ford doesn't store different tunes in forscan.
