I am VERY happy with my AMP Research BedStep. Found it for under $200 shipped, with no tax.

works perfect. doesn't look bad. I'm a big guy (275lb) and it's rock solid.

Could be bad yeah, definitely not as nice as the built in tailgate step but likely loads and loads cheaper and easier to do.

I'd be scared to see what a whole new tailgate plus tailgate step would cost. At that point I'd probably just rather keep a step stool or do what I usually do which is hop up the side via the tire.

I hear you on that; cheaper than a tailgate, that's for sure. It may be worth looking into the bedside steps (Ranch Hand, et al.) too.

From a manufacturing standpoint, with the new step design, it would make sense to build only one tailgate. I’ve never looked that closely but my son will be here at xmas with his 2016 and he’s ask about it. Ford never has rationalized their products well so we’ll see.

I too would like for someone to look deeper. It has to be the same tailgate. Yep the camera might need to be moved, but I'm sure this can be done? New cap and step? What else could there be?

It is a whole new tailgate assembly. If you can't find one at a junk yard then try this. Much more cost effective and works with the tailgate up or down.

I bought one of these; it slides into the receiver, with a push of a **** it swings out, with a pull of the other ****, it slides out just far enough past the open tailgate.

I like the Amp Research as well. I paid 219 but there is a 50 mail in rebate. Yeah, a little pricy for what it Is, but it works well with the tailgate up or down and with or without the trailer attached.
