Default Add tailgate step/pole?

So I didn't order my Lariat w the integrated step but was wondering if its possible to add the parts later? I can't imagine they use different tailgates, just the top rail

From what I've read on here it actually is a different tailgate. I don't believe retrofitting the step is possible on a non step tailgate.

Give it a year until people start wrecking them. You should be able to pick up a complete tailgate with step then, probably even in the right color.

My current truck did not come with the step. I added the Debo step ( debostep.com ) which worked really well for me. It bolts to the frame and you slide it out to use. You can use with tailgate open or closed. Even my wife, who is 5'0", likes using it because it makes it easy to step into the bed.

Just a thought.

You need a new tailgate. Should be $2000ish for parts, labor and paint. The step tailgate is very different, internally.

Like someone else said, chill for a bit an you should start seeing tailgates showing up on ebay, take-off and wrecker sites. Just find one in your color and you're golden.

In the mean-time, there's some cheap box step units that go under the back corners that you can use until you get your new tailgate.

Or...the next time you're at a truck show and someone's pissed you off...use a brick, and then a wrench...
