Default Add a tailgate step?

Hello, I just purchased a 2019 XLT with everything that I wanted except the tailgate step. I am just wondering if the step can be added to my current tailgate or if I have to replace the entire tailgate?

You have to replace the tailgate. It is structurally different than the one without the step.

You can also look into the AMP Research bed step. It attaches under the bumper and folds away. It can be used with the tailgate up or down, with cargo hanging out over the tailgate and with a trailer attached unlike the factory step. They are around $230. I got one about a year and a half ago and love it.

You can get a complete tailgate for about $1200 used. If you shop around enough, might even find one from a Lariat with the hitch light and remote lock in it.

Take a look at the Bestop Trekstep too every bit as good and save some cash. I put one on my truck about 6 months ago and it works great getting onto the tailgate. Then it folds away unobtrusively when I'm not needing it. Install was easy from a piece of cardboard lying on the ground.

Here's what you do.
Drive around until you find one that has a step and is in your color. Come back about 2am and trade.

Do you have the tailgate step? What color is YOUR truck?

The XLT has the hitch light and remote lock as well....as least my 2016 302a had it.
