So your XLT can remote open from the FOB? Did not know it came in that trim, thought it was Lariat and up.

Your statement was remote LOCK not open. All the XLT's have remote lock and max tow with back up assist have the LED. To get the remote open it would take a lot more than just a tailgate.

I got one about a year and a half ago and love it.
Unless you want to spend big bucks replacing the entire tail gate something like this is ^ is your best bet.
My truck has the OEM factory tail gate step and i wouldn't want another truck without that option.

Now i see from Chevy commercials that Chevy has also come out with a similar copy cat step.

I don't think the XLT can remote open the tailgate. That starts at Lariat.

BUT, the XLT key fob and can lock/unlock the tailgate when it locks/unlocks the doors.

Right, I read that as "open" ..to unlock..not open, as open.

It can be locked and unopened then unlocked and still unopened except when it’s opened and unlocked until it’s open and locked again by the key fob but not closed and if closed it’s once again unopened and locked.

Default 2007 Tailgate step

The step on my '07 SuperCrew was a 5 gallon pail..noisy, thrashing around back there while driving 😲. I was stepping down out of the box after washing the roof and my foot went right thru the bottom of the bucket, almost up to my knee. The neighbors got a great laugh watching me Ker-Lump up the driveway to the garage so I could cut it off🤣
