Acceleration
Wow, this thread was really worth it, I have been chuckling all through it. Guy asks about mods for his 3.5 Eco and as is the norm, it turns into a "my 5.0 is better than your Ecoboost" pissing contest...gotta love it!!!
I drive a lowly 15" Screw 2.7 with downpipe, Livernois Tune, MBRP 4" exhaust etc. and while my little truck is quick, I am sure everyone on here is faster...who cares??? My son in law drives a 15 SCREW 5.0 and what I know is that all the motor choices are good choices for different reasons.
Now back to the original post: In order of biggest bang for buck: Tune, Downpipe, Exhaust (You probably would want to do downpipe and exhaust together since they are extensions of each other).
Costs: Good Reputable Tune=$400-600, Downpipe=$700-980, and Exhaust=$400 to 1300 depending on which sound you just really like (and yes, it will not sound like a 5.0)
Enjoy your truck mate!

Could the transmissions have different gear ratios for the different engines? Or could there be a difference in shift patterns? Regardless, my tiny 2.7 moves my big 4x4 truck rather quickly.
This forum is so interesting. It's truly become my new addiction. My wife asked me the other day who I was "chatting with" almost accusatory. I told her my new side piece, the F150 forum.
I just got a '17 screw with the 3.5 EB, but it was tough to go that way over the 5.0. I test drove both, prior to that test drive there was no thought the 5.0 was what I was ordering. After driving both, the 3.5 "felt" more responsive to the way I drive. I'm not a race car driver, but when I need to pass someone at 35-50, the 3.5 felt (to me) like it was happy to jump to 70-80 much faster than the 5.0.
I drove them back to back, same gear ratio, same configuration (same color actually). Maybe it's all in my head, but I was not a believer in the EB as I've always been a believer of the adage "there's no replacement for displacement"...but I went with the 3.5 and love it. Hands down, they're beautiful trucks. That's what matters.

These threads are hilarious. Every time there's an ecoboost thread there's at least one 5.0 driver that has to chime in to say "ITS NOT FASTER THAN MY V8, BETTER RELIABILITY, PROVEN DESIGN, FASTER QUARTER MILE, ETC." Its a pickup truck, its not a race car so it doesn't matter how fast any of these trucks are to 60, 100, in a quarter mile, etc. especially since if you took a turn at any of these speeds you probably end up rolled over. If you want get into a pissing match over speed & track times, get a sports car.
Each engine is designed for different needs of truck buyers & there are plenty of articles & tests online to answer every argument that has been posted on this thread & others. Drive the truck you bought & be happy with it.

I have the 2.7 eb with3.73 gears, I find the acceleration to be phenomenal for such a heavy truck, it's an fx4. Scab. Especially with mid grade non ethonol. I'm looking for minor and relatively inexpensive ways to boost it. I can't seem to find any testing times recorded for my ratio, most are done with 3:55 gears. Anyone have ideas?
