Default AC issue

2018 f150 lariat, 5.0l
150,000 miles
Purchased from original owner 2 months ago.

AC working fine all summer, but after the first time towing with it last weekend the ac stopped working. I don't hear the compressor kicking on, dash air is blowing hot, cooing fans running at a low speed. Thought it needed a charge, but when I hook on the bottle and gauge on low side it spikes to almost 100psi and doesn't change. Tried replacing the cooling fan relay but no change. AC fuse is good. Looked thru hours of videos and threads but other than taking it into a mechanic I'm about out of answers.... any ideas of something a shade tree mechanic could try? Thanks Seth

Unfortunately this past Friday my AC crapped out on my 2017 Lariat!! Made a hell of loud whooshing/ screeching noise starting up... shut it off, restarted and all was quiet but no AC! lol Just blew warm/hot air and the compressor never kicked in. If it was a fuse don’t believe it would have made that loud noise! I have full coverage ESP so didn’t bother checking much except to see if the AC belt was on... which it was. Have an appointment next week and Ford can fix it and I won't have to deal with anything. This is the 3rd expensive repair that’s been needed in the past year so my ESP is paying off. It’s a low mileage truck with only 27,000 miles. My guess the compressor is gone because everything else works except no cool air. I’ll be driving my JKU for a while which is fine because at least the AC works good.

I’d see if the connector for the compressor is getting power when it should be on. If it is then there’s an issue with the clutch/compressor

I’ve had ESP and other extended Warranty’s pay off for me as well.

I'm curious what refrigerant you used to charge with as I believe it should use type 1234y which is spendy to have lying around.

Thanks for the link, I never did smell anything and my clutch turns freely. I will get under there today to check for power at the connector. Autozone got my money for the r1234yf bottle and gauge.

Just checked the plug and yes 14v at the plug but not engaging the clutch. Bad clutch? I hear no click or attempt to engage when I plug it in.

Just putting this out there. Often times a control module will switch the return so the plug could have voltage and will only activate the clutch when there is a ground path.
