Question 4A Mode

Okay, I have a 2016 Platinum SCREW FX4. Currently the truck has about 5k miles but I have noticed since I bought it in September that when in 4A mode, the truck feels "grindy" upon acceleration . I've had a lot of 4WD trucks, some you can tell when your in 4WD and some you can't (until you turn the wheel). Coming from a Tundra that felt seamless in 2WD AND 4WD, I was surprised to feel this "grindy" sensation. Whether its the engine working harder to give the front two wheels power or it is the 4WD system itself, I am not sure. Does anyone else get this sensation when driving in 4A?

You beat me to making a post on this. I now have about 3600 miles on mine, and each of the few times I have been in 4A I feel a suttle driveline vibration under acceleration just below 2000rpm just after it upshifts. Sounds like it could be from the transfer case.

Had a 15 Lariat with no issues in 4A. Traded in on a 16 Platinum and have a vibration/grinding noise at around 2000 RPM. Turning off the 4A removes the noise. No idea if it's a "normal" condition.

Yes, I did have this problem and first noticed it about 5k, took another 15k and about a year going back and forth with the dealership and ford to finally determine it was the transfer case. They replaced under warranty and it's better but still not perfect as compared to my previous 4a trucks.

Well......with three trucks in the same forum within an hour of me posting this, I would say that it is probably considered "normal" by Ford.

Have any of you tried to see if it does it in 4H? Just curious whether or not it is isolated to the 4A mode.

Mine did it in 4h as well. And ford did try to tell me it was normal, however I am no stranger around 4x4 trucks and I was persistent. Shop lead finally admitted there were a run of bad cases in 2015 and 16. I would call ford and start a case immediately that way you bypass the BS at the dealership. Good luck.

I have a much later build (August) 16 and I feel mine is somewhat this way.
I also question how loud my truck is when I remote start it and it's idling and how bad of gas mileage I've been getting lol.... Maybe all three are normal.

I haven't tried in 4H, but I've put it in 4A when it's been raining really bad and of the like and it's def. seemed very sluggish, maybe a bit locked up, etc. I'm under the impression it should be safe to always run 4A though, even if dry conditions, so I'm not sure why it'd seem that way.

My 14 did it and so does the 15. I driven about 5 other f150's and in my experience they have all done the same thing.
