2018 looking sweeter
Back to the OP. I hope that the 2017 changes prove to fix some of the rare but repeating issues with the 3.5 EB. Transfer that forward to a factory tuned version for 2018 and there could be a sizable increase in HP with an increase in overall reliability. We can dream anyway.
If Ford does this, it will likely be an Expedition exclusive feature to make it competitive against its rivals. The 2017 3.5EB already beats most of its rivals in the truck line, and it isn't moving the additional weight an Expedition EL is, which is also probably part of the boost.
I would be SUPER surprised if Ford bumped the HP one model year after just doing so with the 2017s. If they do, I imagine them doing like they do with Super Dutys and offering the updated engine programming to 2017s to bump them up assuming it isn't a hardware change, which is very unlikely this close to a new engine release.

This forum by far suffers from the most " sunshine pumping " Makes you feel like the F150 is above criticism here. Hell, 9 times out of 10 if someone posts an issue and if they haven't been a member for 10 years and have 19,000 posts they are automatically assumed to be trolls.
The other forums seem much more open to criticism and solution finding without being overrun with fan boys.
I'm fairly certain the issue is the membership here is very large. More members equals more fan boys and trouble makers. The idiot to helpful membership ratio is probably the same on all the forums.
It is when it's off topic. The OP was about rumors of the new engine's abilities, which is a stretch IMO anyways, but no need to come in with multiple posts about oil leaks, or cooled seat problems or whatever. You wanna bitch about that, start your own thread on that topic.
Looking at other Ford forums where members also indicated seeing the 400/480 numbers on the Canadian site, someone took a screenshot and it does say that the increased numbers are for the Platinum Expedition. Guessing that the lower trims would have the current engine/tune.
Listen from 4 minutes in for about ten seconds. Hmmmm.
Here's some pure speculation from a HP perspective (torque thoughts omitted).......
The standing V8 is currently at 385 HP (10 HP over the 'flagship' 3.5EB). With the first gen 3.5EB Ford was satisfied to have their Flagship engine trail the Coyote by 20 HP and still call it their top engine offering.
Now with the new V8 coming, if Ford were to tap out the HP variance between the two engines at 20 HP the new V8 would come in at 395 HP. Now that's not very exciting is it? Any more HP however and you start getting quite a bit of difference between the "flagship" 3.5EB and the V8. People may start asking why an engine with 30 plus HP deficit is considered a 'flagship' engine.
The 2018 is a refresh! Ford Marketing Board Room - "Lets create some excitement!!!" After all the competition is tough. We certainly cant Top the Raptor so we have to stay under 450HP. Let's make the V8 420 HP. That's exciting isn't it? Now, we already unzipped our fly early on with the refreshed looks, tech, stereo. We have to keep something cool for the roll out right?
OK give the 3.5EB 400 HP!!! Yeah! That'll do it!! 20 HP less than the Coyote like the first gen 3.5EB versus the current V8. Put the V8 somewhere between the 3.5EB and the Raptor version.
That short snippet on the video AND the new article about the Canadian website supported by a verification via an earlier post? I don't know guys. I would bet we will all be surprised come fall.
