Greetings! I'm new to the forum and having enjoyed reading all the posts the past couple of months. I do not normally post, but something happened this morning while I was driving my daughter to school that I felt I have to share.
I turned off the auto start/stop as is my habit when and headed out of my neighborhood. I was in the middle of a left hand turn when my truck engine died. I was able to shift to neutral and restart the engine immediately. My concern is if this same issue had occurred during a turn with cross traffic moving at higher speed the results could have been much worse.
I am taking the truck into the dealer tomorrow morning and hopefully the dyno will determine what happened. I didn't have time as I was restarting the truck to notice what the dash was displaying. My truck in a 2018 Lariat Screw 501A with the 5.0 engine.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced such an event? Thanks in advance.
This same issue has occurred three more times in the past year. The most recent was last week and I was finally able to take a picture of the truck's message display (attached). This stoppage renders the vehicle immediately dead and locked up as I start to enter an intersection or turn. The *** is always off and the truck dies shortly after acceleration begins. The dealer's answer was to update the Power Control Module. Any thoughts?
Thank you for the picture. If you didn't have one there would be deniers. Only wish I had one from when the exact same thing happened to me. Dealer could not replicate my occurrence therefore did nothing. I have participated in several threads about this issue and it seems there is no resolution to be had. That is why I will once again recommend this:
Only time mine died was coming to a stop and then immediately removing my foot off the brake to go. (coming to a red light that turned green as i stopped). I had the Auto start/stop turned on. It tried to kill the engine and then start it at the same time (i guess). Had to throw it in neutral and start.
Never happened again. Threw up a message on the dash, but i was trying to get it started as fast as i could, didn't read it. Didn't throw any codes. Not your issue since you had yours turned off, but just something to think about if you are going to keep it on. Now i just make sure i give it a second before taking my foot off the gas if the engine cuts off.
Yep, they updated the PCM the next day. Of course they did that a year ago and it did not solve the issue.
Please don't take offense - but I've been driving trucks with four to eighteen wheels and emergency vehicles for over 35 years - and trust me I know complete and total engine failure when it happens. The truck does start again right away but a situation like this could easily result in a serious injury or fatality.
Thanks doyall - I will let the feds know about it. The dealer has update the PCM twice and it hasn't solved the issue.
I've even installed the AutoStop Eliminator as soon as it came out. (Which by the way is an OUTSTANDING product) The truck died last week in spite of that fix as well.
