*UPDATE*

So mother Ford has saw fit to keep my truck another day. She was also gracious enough to grace me with a spare while I await its arrival, after some stern requests.

The service ice manager told me it appears to be some sort of electrical issue, as the truck didn’t actually overheat, but acted like it did. The shaking sensation was apparently “limp mode” and he verified that the CEL code was for an engine overheat, but there was no evidence of overheating.

They em are going to drive it tomorrow to “reproduce the situation” and see what caused it. Who knows. I’m just hoping they find the problem.

I've never understood why, with all the computers and sensors on the vehicle, a more accurate and longer lasting event log isn't available. That would make these kind of occurrences much simpler to diagnose. Maybe you'll be lucky and it will happen for them.

So to update:

dealership cleared CEL and that seems to have fixed the problem, for now. Which in my opinion, isn’t good news, because they have no idea what threw the code, and they did not replace any sensors or anything.

With certain motorcycles, the battery cables need to be wicked tight in order to prevent anything funky happening. Is that something that occurs with these trucks too? I’ll give them a go when I get the truck back but who knows

Did they tell you what DTC was causing the CEL?

I'm willing to bet this is going to lead back to crappy Ford build quality. Probably a connector or sensor not fully inserted or locked into place.

So they gave me the truck back, two codes had came up. It was EL1 and EL15 I think? They were both temp and overheat related, and they drove at least 100 miles since I dropped it off with no more code.

i don’t know, they left the file open and I’m supposed to test drive it now to try and figure it out I guess. If the event happens again I’ll have to get it towed back but at this point I’d rather bring it to another dealership if that’s the case. 3 days with the truck and all I got was a cleared CEL, which I could have done myself Sunday morning when it happened.

The advisor seemed confident that it was just a glitch but that sounds like BS to me. I’m gonna have to do some research as to the locations of sensors and wires leading to sensors to check it all myself.

does anyone have any input as to the locations of the temperature sensors?
