Default 2015 - A/C Belt blew out

Anyone else had this happen to them ? my truck is my weekend family/camping howler. its a 2015 V8 S-Crew Lariat with 40,000KM (25,000 Miles), was towing the Camper/Travel Trailer (about 6500LBS) up a pretty good hill on HWY 17 in Ontario, going about 80-90 km/h and the A/C belt just blew out.

i know the truck was revving pretty high (pretty normal when pulling a heavy trailer up a steep hill) but i don't consider the trailer to be excessive in weight for the truck, so i'm starting to wonder if this is something i have to be careful of ? is it a common occurrence ? i found parts of the belt that were left under the hood, the thing shattered in pieces !

truck is going into service tomorrow to have the belt replaced (hopefully this is under warranty, i'm over the 3-year period since a couple of weeks ago)... will post back.

Most likely the belt tensioner or idler pulley is failing not keeping the belt properly tensioned or in alignment causing the belt to become misaligned and fail. Unlikely the belt failed.

Is this something that can be easily diagnosed ? or will they change the belt and send me home until it blows up again ? i'd really hate to be stuck in this situation again, we were 3 hours from home, it was 100 degree's out ... lets just say the kids (1 and 3) weren't in the best mood.

also just for the record, this is only perhaps the 6-7th time i'm pulling this travel Trailler (only got it this year), so its not like the truck has worked hard all its life.

Inspecting the condition of the belt tensioner and idler pulley is fairly straightforward and easily diagnosed during the belt replacement. There's also the possibility the A/C compressor or clutch has seized resulting in the belt failure.

Just got a call from the dealer... 3000$ un-warrantied repairs, anything i can do about this ? can i contact Ford ?

they tell me my AC compressor is shot, my belt tensioner is shot, all belts need to be replaced, as well as the pulleys. How can this be on a 40,000KM truck ? and i'm only 2 months out of the power-train warranty.

I mean, some of these parts must of started having issues before my warranty was over or something ?

this is pretty enraging !

Who performs the PMs? Was any type of inspection performed during the PMs?

not sure what a PM is, but i've done the 1st and 2nd oil change myself (i do it about every 6-7000km), brought the truck in at this same dealership at around 18-20K km (cant remember exactly, but it was 2 years old at the time) for the "maintenance check / oil change" they do around that time. and have done oil changes myself since then (2 of them).

i was due for the next maintenance check sometime soon but wanted to wait until fall to have them swap my tires at the same time... i really dont think i have been negligent with this truck at all.

powertrain warranty is 5-yr 60k. So you're still in that. You're referring to the bumper-to-bumper 3-yr 36k warranty. i guess they don't consider accessory belts part of the powertrain warranty, argue that it is. Engine can't run without it, therefore it's powertrain.

PM = Oil Change and Multi-point Inspection.

They're just referring to Preventative Maintenance.
