Hey guys, I joined this site in 2010 when I had my 2004 F150 XLT 5.4 Fx4 scab. The information on this site saved me serious $$$ when I did both cam phasers and 6 broken spark plugs in my own garage. Just upgraded to an end of year 2015 F150 XLT 3.5 ecoboost Fx4 screw (302A, max-tow). The truck only has 800 miles on it so far and I'm loving it!!
I have trolled around countless topics regarding my new truck and now have more questions than I started with. Here are just a couple random thought I have after reading what others have posted:
1. Do you need to run regular or premium fuel in the ecoboost motors? I have read all the pro's and con's on it but I seriously never thought this would be an issue. I bet the dealership did not fill it up with premium when I first drove it home.
2. Is an oil catch can really needed? I have read many intelligent sounding people who say one is an absolute necessity but it will void my warranty if I put one on? Something doesn't sound right about that.
3. I hope my truck does not have that shudder issue when downshifting at highway speeds. This sounds like a classic example of Ford having a known issue with one of their motors and refusing to admit it.
4. Amazing what you don't get with a $50,000 (sticker price) vehicle. No lighted vanity mirrors (settle down, they are for the wife), no integrated garage door openers, no dual-zone heating and no 8 inch display in the instrument cluster even though the internet build said it came with one. Ever buy something new and focus on what it does not have rather than what it does?
I have read many replies to all of the above questions and don't expect anyone to go into them again. These are just thoughts as a new owner I did not expect to have to ask myself.
No major mods yet, maybe sometime in the future. There are a ton of great looking trucks on this site to get inspiration from!!
Pretty close eye on the tires, they are 275/70/18 KO2's. I would like to have a leveling kit but I do a lot of towing with a trailer and I don't want to have it all jacked up in the front.
I'm a Michigan transplant who ended up in Kansas but I still love the Wolverines!!
Thanks man, appreciate it. I have enjoyed watching the Royals and Chiefs the past year but still gotta root for Michigan sports even though they mostly stink, except for the Wings..
Was your dealer able to recalibrate your speedometer, or are you ok with the +3.4% difference? My understanding is they cannot adjust the speedometer in 15+ trucks.

I haven't even thought of trying to recalibrate the speedo. I usually don't drive around too fast but maybe this ecoboost will change my driving habits. Glad I did not buy the 2015 Silverado 6 speed with the 5.3 in it.

This is debated as much as what political party you are affiliated with. Short answer: Nothing wrong with going with premium....nothing wrong with going regular. Personal preference on what will put your mind at ease --wallet or savings. You can find a slew of information all over the interwebs about each argument.
End of the day...go with what makes you happy (just like your truck!)

I personally don't think its needed but, there are smarter people out there.

Looks like there was a TSB out there that is supposed to fix this. Its a crap shoot, some people say it still exists, others say its fixed.

You've come to the right place my friend! It's what forums are all about...not feeling alone in your issues/thoughts.
Ford sells about 750,000 trucks a year.
This forum has a little over 209,000 members
Over the 9 major forum categories giving us a little over 23,000 users per forum. (split equally)
At any point there are about 5,000 users active on this site
Given the amount of users in this forum (total) it equals about 1.39% of the total ford truck population.
The reason I do all this number crunching is the one fact: You are on this forum for answers, venting and generally pissed off about something. So, dont take this forum too seriously, love your truck. There are plenty of people who have no issues with their trucks....but they wont be in this forum!
I worked in tech support for a while and one things stuck with me....you will never get a call from a customer saying "Everything is working fine, thank you!". Once you realize that there are more customers out there without issues than with...the happier you'll be.
LOVE YOUR TRUCK!!!! Have fun!
(thanks for an actual good topic!)
