I am pretty sure this is normal operation so the battery doesn't get drained down if you leave something plugged in.

Yep, the way it is designed and built.

And as battery gets older/weaker, etc. it gets shorter after turn off. Ask me how I know............

This is working as designed. I assume you are looking to keep one or more of the 12V power points active all the time.... if so, search this forum or check out this thread.... I now have a 12 Volt outlet on 24/7 - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans
If you are instead of trying to shut the power point off earlier or at some other designated time, FORScan can allow you to change the timeout after the truck is turned off.

A real PIA, So I'm charging my cell phone and it stops charging after 10 minutes. My cell phone is really going to drain that battery (as opposed to the start / stop at every traffic light) Where do they find these Engineers? (BTW I'm an engineer). I've driven BMW motorcycles for over 40 years, about 12 years ago they started doing the same crap - outlet turns off after 10 minutes. The only way around it is to find a hot wire that is always hot and tap into that. Now my MC battery is really small relative to a car battery, I've never drained a battery charging my cell phone / ipad / computer / air mattress air compressor over night.

Kind of narrow thinking about a Cell Phone! You can charge it full time while driving. There are cords long enough to power and talk at the same time even though it is illegal to do so while driving.
Some foolish people try to draw many amps of current without ever thinking about being stranded with a dead battery; don't ya think?
Some leave the parking lights on for long periods as well.
Then complain the vehicle wont start the next time they want to go.
This is an attempt to save them from themselves beside the electronics on board is much more sensitive to low voltages in the last 6 years.
Time you re-think your position.

Or instead of rethinking your position, since your an engineer and have a narrow or specific need, you can shut the battery management system off with forscan. Threads on it all over this site.

So your saying Forscan will work on mine BMW motorcycle. And yes I'm not stupid about charging the phone in my truck while driving. But trying to charge the phone on the MC while driving doesn't work out so well. And no a cell phone and Ipad will not kill my MC battery overnight (I have to charge them when I set up my tent for the night). So my point is there is no valid reason to shut the 12 VDC outlet off. My 2013 Escape keeps at least one outlet hot all the time.

My wifes 2016 Escape also has a full time outlet. My 2016 F150 and 2020 F150 do not.

Go figure.

The 12v powerpoint on my '05 XLT was powered on indefinitely. Can't tell you how many times the kids were in the back seat and left the power inverter on (for watching videos) after we left the truck. I think the idea of having it shut off after some interval is pretty smart. Getting stranded with a dead battery sucks...
