Default Wrong Dipstick?

Hello,
In my 93 XL 4,9 the oil dipstick is not the round, yellow ring type, it is a black T-handle with yellow "Engine Oil" lettering? Does anyone know if this is correct or does it need the ring type? I don't really care about appearance, if they are exactly the same length, so I get an accurate reading.
Any help?

For what it's worth, the original dipstick that came on my truck was the round yellow ring type, but it was rusty. I went to the dealer and ordered a brand new dipstick and it was the "T" type.

The main thing to determine if the dipstick is right is to know how many quarts of oil your truck holds and see how the dipstick measure it out. I'm assuming your truck holds either 5.5 quarts or 6 quarts. If it reads full, you are set. If not......you need a new dipstick.

I agree with checking the level and seeing if it appears between the lines, but I guess the prior owner could have used the wrong dipstick and then over/under filled it if they didn't know the capacity and waiting until they could see it on the dipstick...

My '98 Explorer 5 liter had the T handle with yellow lettering. Manuals go back to '96 online and say "yellow lettering". What does your manual say?

Just rain it, put the proper amount in and if it doesn't read right make a new line with a file, at least for now.

Guys....this was a factory issue. The correct amount is 5 1/2 quarts. Fill it, mark your stick and enjoy. The trucks manual says 5.5. Ford spec says 5.5. This issue has been discussed hundreds of times on the forum with all referring to the manual. 5.5qts.

He just wanted to make sure his dipstick was correct because it is black T with yellow lettering instead of the ring type.

I know. It just doesn't seem to matter which dip stick is in the truck. All of the 6 f150's that I have immediate access to all have wrong reading dip sticks. Yellow and black. I'm 99% sure that ford set the stick for the pan quantity not including the filter. It would seem that after a decade they would have fixed it, but it did not seem to matter. Lol
