Thanks for the replies. I just want to make sure that I am getting an accurate reading so as to not over or under fill the pan. I have heard the truck takes 5.5 quarts and then there is the 6 quart opinion, both with filter. Isn't there a measurement of exactly how long the blade on the factory dipstick should be? I guess that is what I should have asked.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the dipstick varied a bit over the years. You will ultimately be ok whether it's 5.5 or 6 quarts. Start off with 5.5. If it measures full, your truck holds 5.5. If it reads a half quart low, your truck holds 6. But don't get hung up on the actual amount of oil it holds.

I believe there was also a larger pan on some trucks, I also may be wrong but thought I read that somewhere a while back.
