Default Window tint

How many of you guys have installed your own window tint? Was it hard?

I'm thinking of doing it myself to save about 75 bucks, in the process of taking the old purple, clouded tint off right now.

I was going to use the static cling tint, so no adhesive, just goes on like a big sticker. Ammonia is what turns it purple, right?

Far as I knew direct sunlight is what purpled (cheap) window tint. I've tried that static cling kind, good few years ago actually. Dunno what I did or didn't do but making that look good when I was done was damn near impossible. Wouldn't but it past being impatient though. Oh, and that was a 96 Sable. Read: A car with big oval for a window and now nice easy corners. So a pita.

Only good trick I've heard is use soap, water, and a small squeegee to get bubbles out. Can't say if that trick applies to static tint.

I figured if I'm doing it on my own, I'll do it static style that way if I do mess up, it's not a massive pain in the *** to remove. I've spent 5 hours so far getting my old *** tint off, and I'm still not done.

Unless my girl can get me a sweet deal on professional tint from her dad's buddy... Then I won't even try myself

I did mine with black magic from wal mart. Not hard. Fresh tint is 100 times easier to remove than old tint with cured adhesive. Pulls right off. Baby shampoo with water in a spray bottle. Clean windows like a motherf'er. Save a lot of headache. Use a rubber squegee and hard plastic one. Make sure you have plenty of SHARP razor blades. Dull blades will just pull and f it up.

Did you use the static cling or the normal adhesive black magic? That's the brand I was thinking about using

I used the Black Magic Professional line from WalMart. 5% in th eback 20% on the sides. Didn't have a single problem getting it on, even in the wind. With the exception of a couple of dog hairs getting between the tint and glass. Which doesnt bug me lol.

What I use is Dawn Dish soap in a spray bottle with water mixture. Makes it super slippery so it doesn't stick prematurely.

Also instead of a squeege, use a credit card or something. Just make sure you spray the back of the tint, and the window thoroughly before applying it to the window, then once you have it set, spray the front side and use the credit card to squeege the bubbles away.

Spraying the side you are squeegeeing makes it easier to slide across, and you won't scratch the tint.

The Static Cling stuff is crap. Don't use it unless you want your windows to look ****ty blue. Trust me, EVERYONE will know you used it.

Best way I've heard and have done to clean windows, Invisible Glass and Newspaper. Invisible Glass is gonna not be far from your window tint in walmart. Newspaper is good at removing grease (that haze you can see at night when cars are oncoming). IG doesn't streak and you don't need to dry it. Just spray on, wipe everywhere with wad of newspaper till it's dried/gone. Suggest wearing gloves or holding it through a plastic bag otherwise hands will be all black from the ink.

Clearest I've ever seen glass.
