Default Top speed

I have a 1988 F-150 Lariat single cab long bed 4wd 302w. It is completly stock except 31" tires and 2.5" dual exhaust. My truck tops out at about 85mph. Does this sound normal? How fast is your stock truck?

If you havent changed your speedo gears, your speedometer will be off due to the tire size.

yea I've got 33's and a diff rear end ratio so my speedo is pretty much useless. When I'm doing 65 it says I'm doing about 45. If I get pulled over and the cops ask me how fast I think I was going, I can honestly say I don't know. But hopefully that won't happen, knock on wood!

my speedo is only off by 1mph at 60. it says 59. I have a code tester that i am going to use this weekend. I dont have a check engine light on but i just feel like i should have more power.

I've had the F-150 up to about 85 couple times and it felt like it could pull some more. Not quickly but it builds speed pretty decently I thought for a L6.

When i got it to do 85 i was alredy going 80 on the interstate in OD. It was still pulling but very slowly. On my way home this afternoon im going to try running it up in 4th and letting you guys know what happens. I had not run it past about 40,000rpm untill this morning (took it to about 52,000). This truck is new (to me) and i am still learning how it drives.
