So on the way home I decided to try and see if i could beat my 85mph OD run with the truck in fourth instead. I floored it in third and was going to run it up to about 5 grand before the shift to fourth to give myself the best chance at quickly achieving a top speed run. I never made it out of third. The truck would stop accelerating at about 4,200rpm. So i shifted to OD and cruised the rest of the way home.

Something has to be wrong! Like I said earlier I will pull the codes this weekend and see what the problem may be. The truck runs fine, it just has no power. I'm hoping maybe a timing issue. I will check that this weekend too.

Any Ideas??

240 MPH! If the cliff is high enough to reach terminal velocity & you get a good running start! If you try it, keep the windows rolled up. Screaming sometimes scares little kids that may be watching! It really is "a once in a lifetime experience!" You'll be talking to yourself about it for...........a good 18 to 20 seconds. It just seems like forever.

Mine 2001 F150 would do 100, that's all the speedo says. I had a 96 f150 that would do 90 mph, that's all the speedo indicated in it as well ( know both would do more, but I had no way of knowing how much more).

The 96 f150 had a 300 I6, it would not rev beyond 4200 or so with a load on it, the cam isn't designed to rev the motor high. The I6 makes a bunch of noise ~4K an anything above, that's it. It likes to be a low reving motor with a load on it.

My wife's 2009 Hyundai will do 137, I did this looking for that mysterious cut off that hyundai says it has, but couldn't find it. At 137, the sonata doesn't handle that great , starts floating and chit, so I backed off.

240 MPH is Maximum speed of a free falling object (wheels up, flaps trimmed, arms kept in the car at all times). I thought you asked "How fast will my truck go?" I didn't say I was or would be in it (I said "you could" meaning pretty much anybody else but me!) I have been clocked at 104mph in a 1/4 mile on a 6 ft. x 6 inch piece of wood (waterski) & 87mph in the 1/4 mile w/o the wood (barefoot)! Is that nuts enough for ya? It was for me! That stuff, I have newspaper clips because I went "out the front door" at the end of both runs. Probably would have screamed, but I was too busy getting my a** kicked! "SPEED doesn't kill. It's how fast you stop!" When I fly, I'll nap through the takeoff, but I'm wide awake for the landing. One more thing:"It's important that you believe, or Tinkerbell will die!"(Heard that line in a movie. Seemed appropriate.) On the 18 to 20 seconds: Acceleration would be at 32 feet/sec./sec. If somebody wants to do the math! (to be honest, I took a 1/2 educated guess.)

Well if you want to get technical 240mph is not the maximum speed of X object in freefall. It may be the maximum speed of some specific object in free fall but not just any object. I doubt you know the maximum velocity of your truck in freefall. They have recorded people (sky divers) at speeds of over 600mph! Actually your truck could go much faster than that. You could strap it to that rocket sled thingy the government or NASA or whoever has out in the desert. Im not sure but i believe that thing goes over 6,000mph! If you wanted to be really clever im sure you could find ways to make it go even faster than that.

Im confused. You were doing 1/4mile speed runs on waterskis? Ive never heard of that. By the way 107mph on a waterski is pretty damn impressive. I would like to see the newspaper clippings. You must have a pretty awsome boat. And what do you mean "out the front door" at the end of both runs?

The record on a ski at the time was 128mph. The record Barefoot (no ski) was 98mph. I was only 11mph off that. After 70mph, every additional 10mph is a new can of worms. Going out the front is pretty self explanatory (out the back, you can slide 30 or 40 mph off your speed before body parts start catching on the water). There's a picture of the beginning of my ski fall where I'm skidding on my chest w/ my heels touching the back of my helmet. It's like jumping out of a car on the freeway w/ a firetruck driving next to you, hosing you down at the same time. Shortly after that my brain must have finally developed completely and I decided to switch to something a little safer. Show skiing & Stuntboat driving.

It all seemed like great ideas at the time. Anytime I'd crash hard, I'd hear "Your going to feel that when you get older!" They were right. At least I know it's going to rain, 1/2 hour before it starts!(If that's worth anything)
