timming mark question

Default timming mark question

i got a 96 ford f150 4.9 its obd2. i marked the crank pully on 10 tdc and i marked the pointer under the crank sensor and unhooked the spout conn. and the mark is no way nere the pointer i cant even see it. am i doing something wrong?

i can unhook and hook the spout connector up on the driver fender well and it done effect the marks at all. is their something else to unhook?

Make sure you are on the #1 spark plug wire.....

#1 is the fist cylinder right? and when i unplug and plug in the spout conector shouldnt it have a change in the idle? their is no change at all in the idle when i hook it up and unhook it.

yes i had the timing light hooked up right. but when i took out the spout it did not effect the idle at all. this is a 96 model and is a obd2 and it has a crank sensor also if that helps. was also told to go with the timming mark below the crank sensor not the one on the timming gear cover. but eather way its way off.

See if there's another set of timing marks viewed from underneath on the right side. Mine was the same way, timing mark no where not even close. I timed it using the vacuum method. Later I discovered another set of marks underneath but never put a timing light on it to see because it runs pretty darn good, so I must have done it right with the vacuum method.

i looked ant the only one i can find is on the timing gear and the one right below the crank sensor. when you pull the spout out the parks are no way near were they need to be.

the CORRECT tab is on the passenger side of the engine.... NOT on the timing cover

any pic of the tab? all mine has is a point stick out on the pass. side. but like i said the timing marks is no way near eather mark. could the crank pully were its rubber inside could it have turned? plus why dont it affect anythang when i pull out the spout connector?

Google it and you'll find plenty of images... I did the same thing when I first got my truck...
