Default t case is gone

Well my t-case got hung up earlier today and broke in two. It's from a 93 5.0 w/ the 5 speed. I found a donor truck, a 91. Should be the same trans case, right?

Well the metal looks pretty thin, and its cast. I bottomed out on a curb and bam, in two. I was looking at a junkyard, they seem to list 93 as being a year where the t cases changed (borg warner 1356), can anyone verify this?

haha, I should've named myself Blown_Tcase, oh the irony!

Found some info:

Ford began using the BorgWarner 1356 in 1987 as a replacement for the BorgWarner 1345. The 1356 boasts a tough magnesium case...

So, shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement if it goes back that far.

Do you guys think if I pull off what's hanging and remove the chain, that I can drive it around town? I would think that if the chain is off there won't be anything rubbing as long as I keep it in 2wd. I need to tow a car next weekend and will not have a new t-case by then...

dude, i have knocked my tcase on a rock while I was wheeling. it landed straight up on the case and dented it but didnt mess the internals or touch the chain. i thought these things were fkn strong. I have a hard time believing a curb did that.

Probably any tcase from 80 up would probably work, put it in 2 high and see if it moves, you might get away with a little travel as long s it does not burn up due to lack of fluid, and is that a borg warner or new process? I am pretty sure either my dads old 87 or my old 92 had the new process.

I believe that Ford switch over to the borg cases in 1980. According to my research any Ford Transfer will match up with the transmission splines. The strongest case is the New Process 205, this is a cast iron case with gears instead of a chain to drive the front axle.
