Default Stripped Plug

So my spark plug hole is stripped in my 4.9. I've been told lock tight or something like helix to re thread it. Any ideas or experience in this type of thing?

You might get away with using a spark plug hole tapping tool. You just screw it in like a spark plug and it cleans the threads up. If that doesn't work, HeliCoil.

No to the head removal.

Go see your local NAPA Parts House. They have a ton of fixes, most based around the Helicoil insert. He'll know just what you need and your kit will include the special tools.

Be extra careful not to get filings down into the cylinder. Anytime you do tapping and/or drilling on the spark plug holes, that is a risk.
Good luck.

Pack the flutes on the tools with Grease. That will catch most of the chips. A little clean up with the shop vac and you're good to go.

Good luck.
When I had that problem I removed the head so I wouldn't get any shavings in my cylinders. It took around 1-1 1/2hrs.
