Default Starting Problem

Hello all

So I did a motor swap on my 92 flare side. From a 302 to a 302 HO. But I also removed both fuel tanks and installed a 19 gallon fuel cell and an inline fuel pump. Does anyone know if there would be a problem with it starting again with the stock fuel senders not plugged in?

Thanks: Mark

How did you wire the pump? You have to do something with the tank selector switch.

I wired the pump directly. Not to the truck wiring. What is the something I need to do with the tank selector switch?

Well, nothing since you bypassed it.

Bypass the tank selector switch and use the fuel pump wires.

That’s not helping, use fuel pump wires for what?.. I need to know if there is any electronics in the fuel system of the truck that would disable the spark or ignition? Part of my problem is that I have a distributor from a 302HO 92 Mustang, this unit has the TFI module on the distributor itself, the original F150 distributor (I don’t have) uses the TFI module on the inside of the fender. So after getting some advice apparently I was able to extend the original TFI wires to meet up with the mustang distributor, this idea does not seem to work. After asking a few more questions, a friend mentioned that it may be the fuel pump relay and the fact that if its not there, it may not fire. Motor turns over great, just no spark. Im hoping a new F150 distributor will work but i just want to gather ideas on the fuel system electronics and the usage of a Mustang distributor. Incase anyone is wondering, im using a 89 lincoln MkVii ecu and stock F150 injector harnesses for the HO conversion.

There are no electronics in the tank that will disable the spark. If the truck isn't sparking then messing with the fuel system isn't going to fix that, more likely your distributor wiring isn't correct. But yes use the existing fuel pump wiring to power the fuel pump but bypass the selector switch. That will also leave the inertia switch functioning in case of a wreck.

Why did you have to swap engines? Also, I thought that year was a batch fire injection system not sequential....you need to find pin-outs of the f-150 and the Mark8 harnesses and confirm that everything is the same.
