Did you compression test it yet? I had a Chevy that jumped time on me and naturally the compression was so weak that it wouldn't start. If it had, I might have had to buy new heads "valves" for the poor old thing. It might be a valve timing issue. I have seen "mechanics" rebuild an engine and never give the timing chain and sprockets a second thought.

But the point about proper grounding is right on the mark. If a good ground is not provided, it will start looking for an easier path to ground and that can damage a lot of solid state circuits. Hope you find your problem.

Spark Plugs? Sheesh.. A 3 page thread over spark plugs and the OP changed the computer for god sakes.

Did you put old spark plugs in it when you rebuilt the engine 5000 miles ago?

I guess they went to the junkyard for new plugs.

The reason I did not guess plugs was because my grandpa just put new ones in about a month ago. (autolites) I told him to use motorcraft, but he didnt. They failed because of the fuel regulator putting too much fuel into cylinders and flooding it out.

I have Autolites with no issues. I guess when you did the TDC exercise the fouled plug wasn't evident... Fouled plugs are fairly obvious as the plug will be blackish and usually wet with fuel.

And I wonder how many times they had been wet? Good for you. How does the cap and rotor look?
