Default Speedo and Odometer quit at the same time!

Hello, I am new to the forums so hi everyone.

I have a 1992 2wd F150 long bed with the 5.0. Yesterday, my speedo and odometer quit at the same time. I have search the forums, but it seems to be multiple possibilities. So here's a recap for ANYONE that can help:

  • No speedo or odometer (quit simultaneously)
  • Truck does not have any lights on the dash i.e. Check Engine, ABS
  • The Rear ABS light does light up only when you are getting ready to start the truck
  • The truck is not shifting funny at all. Always has shifted pretty smooth.
  • Checked the fuses, and none seemed to be blown
  • I have not had any speedo bouncing or fluctuating prior to yesterday.
Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks folks.

ill check it out. Should I go with a Autozone or Advanced Auto VSS? Or should I just get OEM from Ford? Autozone I am sure is cheaper, and down the street but whatever is better.

How have we authoritatively condemned the sensor rather than a wiring or other circuit issue?

Especially since the ABS light isn't flashing.

he asked what it could be, 9-10 times it is the vss sensor, i said check it out, not go buy a new one. check it out means check out the mounting, wiring and what not.

That is the best place to start, and the cheapest.

I figure I will just replace it while I am down there. It is a cheap fix, and it's never been changed. I will do that in the next few days, and post the end result. Thank you very much everyone. Forums are the ONLY place I go for help.
