Default replace slave

hey all-
so I think I am going to have to replace the clutch slave. 89 f150 wonts to grind before going into reverse. if I put it in 1st gear then to reverse it works great! but sometimes at a stop when I go to put it in 1st it wont go in!! I have to struggle with it for awhile, and I dont really know how i get it in but I do, sometimes I can get it into 3rd and roll it for a sec then pop it in to 1st. clutch feels very soft.

any ideas?

John

I guess I am a little lost on that please forgive me. I guess I figure the brake MC was the same as the clutch MC, there are two different ones? I just had the rear brakes done and the lines bleed and flushed, they work great now!

I assume now that they are different, looks like the clutch MC is mounted on the fire wall, I will check that out tomorrow. thanks!could it just be low fluid? what about air in the lines?

so I checked my fluid and it seems fine, my clutch had a hard time engaging and sometimes disengaging.... gotta be the slave. I just got the truck but I had an 87' before I love the truck and wanna get it running right but I am running out of money ha ha. so I went and priced out the slave and clutch kit, questions. does anyone know if I might have an external slave? (its pouring outside right now so I dont wanna look till it slows down) schucks had both an internal and external listed. also they had a 10" clutch kit and a 11"? which one do I need? time... how much time does it take to pull the tranny ad get this done? anyone paid the shop to do it? whats it cost?

the slave is internal.... if the slave is leaking, then it'll be wet around the bellhousing.... your master cylinder or a line might be leaking if its leaking fluid somewhere else.... when you pull the tranny, i think its easier to pull the transfer case off first.... that way, the tranny isn't as heavy.... now as far as the 10" clutch compared to the 11", i have no idea on....
