racing?????
he is probably picking on you for more then just the reason you got a ford. a stock v8 mustang will beat a stock v6 mustang any day of the weak. if the chevy was comparable it would be a better race. its not that your truck is crap or his is better. just not racing in the right area.

im not counting the 302 out. you do have a manual, and his chevy could be running like crap. who knows, theirs alot more then just engine size and what transmission is in it. like my 96 f150 beat my friends 93 Mitsubishi eclipse which weighs like 1800 pounds less then me, he had a 5 sp manual. but my dodge with the 318 and automatic beats my f150 pretty easy.
Well the longer throw on the 302 puts the torque curve earlier in the rpm which will help with a heavy truck. But still 45 ci is a bit to overcome. It would help if we knew more about the torque outputs and gear. But I would guess your best hope is to get the jump on the light and hit your shifts just right. The Chevy automatic has a terrible shift lag too.
Never really understood the point of wanting to race in a pickup truck. A lot of threads about it so I guess I may be the odd ball, but I can't imagine a scenario that would involve me wanting to race anyone with my pickup.
