power steering

Default power steering

i just replaced the power steering pump on my 87 inline6 and now everytime i fill up the fluid and go to start it up it pops the rubber line in the back of the pump...the line it practically new too...is there something im doin wrong??

Suggest either got the supply and return lines reversed somehow, or the new pump has a return restriction.

Not sure what you mean. If the hose is popping off then tighten the clamp. If the hose is bursting use high pressure hose instead of the cheap stuff.

yeah its the return line....the hose was replaced about 6months ago or so and it was with a gates fuel line so maybe ill try injection hose....i just splits the line....could it possibly be that there is air in the line??

Does it split the hose with the cap off the PS reservoir?
If it does, there is a defect in the new pump.

AS JCMS said; Ensure the correct type hose is installed with a heavy duty clamp.

As wde3477 said; make sure you did not cross the discharge with the suction, it would have been difficult to do that though.

The pump should not be building-up any pressure in the suction hose.

i just changed the fuel filter a little bit ago....and im not sure if it does it with the cap on ill have to try it out....i know i hooked it up right....i just need time to do some trial and errors on it but im work right now....

x2, except i think the 2in thick sludge on my driver side valve cover keep it from leaking. oh well i'm not overly worried about how clean the engine is, its hard enough keeping the outside clean...
