If you pull the battery cables off every time you're under the hood you're wiping the memory of the comp.

Hard to read codes when it's constantly being reset.

Yep, you need the drive it for a while, including many completed warm up cycles. You can try the,...........no, tell me what happens when you disconnect the IAC while at a warm idle?

Will pull the iac tomm. Ty for the help. If it matters the engine light has never come on even after an extended period of time. Have checked it with a comp and also didn't pop any codes.

The light on will only infer certain codes to expect. Most codes don't trigger the light. Pages & pages of codes! If you didn't receive codes 11 or 111, you weren't in diagnostic mode.

'96 = OBDII. It can only be read and cleared with a scanner.

Oh yeah, check the air intake from the MAF to the throttle body for tears and leaks.

was told by a mech that the resetting the iac trick wont work due to the fact its obdII. checked hoses visually on maf boot and saw nothing. checked with trusty carb cleaner and nothing as well. is it possible my tranny has something to due with it? m5-r2 with 200,000 on it. runs fine except for third gear issue. are there vac line on a man. tranny?

You know, I've never tried it on a OBD2. I bet he hasn't either! But, I never recommend anything I haven't tried first, so I beg of you, back away from the IAC connector!!!!!

Is that a round about way to tell me to check that thing? Itll happen soon. Ty (i think) for the advice. Ne wisdom on the tranny quest?
