Default overheating and leaking

My truck overheated last night and this morning when i went to add antifreeze which was really low, it started pouring out fast near the back of the passenger side, what is this?

Its a 302 this was just dangling therevwhere the coolant was leaking out

I don't know what a block heater looks like, but if I had to guess I'd say that. You're missing a freeze plug.

That's a block heater. It's a 110 volt AC immersion heater that warms your coolant so your truck starts easier in cold weather.
They're installed by knocking out a frost plug and putting the heater in the hole. If it fell out it probably means the tightener (it's been a while but, if memory serves, it's a nut) is missing. I do recall this though: it's a helluvalot easier to put in another block heater even if you never connect the wires than to press in a &@$%#~ frost plug.

Well i just put in a plug type deal i got from kragen since they didnt have what i needed and i filled her back up with anti freeze and ive got it running right now and and it will not heat up? My temp gauge in the cab is not moving at all?

W/ engine cold, remove the radiator cap.

Start engine & let idle until normal Op. Temp is reached.

Watch coolant level, topping off as needed during the process.

Replace cap.

You have now successfully "Burped" you cooling system!

Ymeski i did what you said and the gauge still wont move, should i check my thermostat?
