1996 E40D.

I get up to 50 and engine just revs out when trying to shift into OD...

any check engine lights? OD light flashing? any codes?

no lights flash or stay lit. the OD on/off button on shifter works and lights. have not scanned for codes... dont wanna take to mechanic... thinkin i'm going to take it down to monument car parts and see if they have a scanner i can use.

most auto parts stores do scans for free (if its obdii which yours should be) if you have an autozone, knecks any thing like that around there you can take it to them.

Ill do that and post back. I have been told it could be a "snapped servo ring". Opinion on that?

i have never heard of/dealt with that problem so i couldn't even tell you if its a real thing

If I cant fix this myself, I dont know if it's worth taking to the shop. 1996 XL 4X4 with 100k. I just bought it for $1500

If you know how to swap a transmission then you can fix it yourself. I get my used trannys for around $250.

Bout all I am capable of is dropping the pan. I dont have time nor the space to try and swap a tranny.
