Default Obd2 bluetooth adapters

I was looking at installing a trans temp gauge in my 96 5.8. As one thing lead to another, I stumbled across these Bluetooth senders that plug into the obd port and send I for to your smart phone, laptop, or tablet. I realize not many people with obs fords will have used them, at least not on the trucks. Anyone use this on their truck or another vehicle? How well do they work, and why do the Bluetooth adapters range in price from $20-$200? Any benefit to the higher priced ones?

Are there any that read trans temp? And are there quality differences in the adapter you plug into the port, like the speed it sends info to your phone? Or do some adapters not give all the info others do, or is that just based off the app?

If ur truck has a temp sensor on the trans it may read it. There are preferred one but I can't remember witch one. Don't get the cheap china ones. These have been out for quit some time now so there may be better ones out there from the one I have.

What is read depends on the vehicle not the app or the code reader. The newer Tundras read crazy stuff like catalytic convertor temps. Most of the older stuff is not setup for tranny temp and such.

So what should a decent one cost? $50?

In that case if you want more techical info, try a Scan Guage II that plugs into the OBDII port. I have one and love it for tracking mileage but I don't believe it gives you trans temp options but it does for coolant and intake.
