Doesn't the e4od have a trans temp sensor in it? It seems I remember reading it going into a something like limp mode or it may be limp mode if it gets too hot.

I was looking at those, and although still easy to transfer vehicle to vehicle, not quite as portable as an adapter and your phone or tablet. The cheap price also attracted me. Although I'm still looking.

Why would you want it to be portable? Mine is plugged in at all times and I don't need to have in on other peoples vehicles since its set to my specs.

Because I have other vehicles, and the apps allow different vehicle profiles. So I can take it from my truck to say my 05 accord.

It also functions as a code reader and live info for things like o2 sensors and mass air flow sensors.

I believe our trucks have a temp sensor on the automatic transmissions, but it might be more of a simple sensor like the oil pressure and only output if certain high temp is reached. This is a common method for trans temp as not very many vehicles give a specific temp reading. An example would be new F150's, the xl won't output trans temp but the higher trims will.

I use a Elm327 and my old android phone along with a $3 Harbor Freight magnetic attachment. You need a wifi capable Elm327 if you want to use an Iphone.

same here. I also have a tablet I use for quick and dirty diagnostics... mostly if I have to test drive one on the fly...
