Question Is the O2 sensor needed?

I took my truck to the local dealer, because of the O2 problem; its not hooked up. $95 later they said that to fix it would be expensive, and it really wasn't necessary anyway. So this leads me to the question: is it really unnecessary, and would it pass the polution test when I get the inspection renewed? Thanks in advance.

I don't see why it would be expensive to fix the O2 sensor, you would just screw a new one in. Worst case the bung is broken off the exhaust and a new one would have to be welded back on before you could screw on the new sensor. The O2 sensor is very important for the engine to run correctly, and I doubt it will pass inspection without one.

The wires that go from the sensor to wherewever they go was cut. I have a new sensor, but nowhere to plug it into.

You'll have to find the wires and splice in the sensor. The color of the wires depends on the year of the truck and what engine.

I work with a guy who worked on cars, and he told me the same thing, find the wiring harness, pull back(or cut) the covering and look for the four wires that have been cut. Thanks.

No problem, if you tell me the year and engine I can give you the colors.

Got so excited to see Sean back in action, I forgot the thread starter. What type of place thinks an 02 sensor isn't necessary? Struggle that I may at times with the computer controlled devices on these engines, the technology is here to stay. Answers are out there, we just have to find them.

I took my truck to the Rockwall Ford here in Rockwall, Tx. They said that is could be fixed, but it would be expensive, I'm guessing they would have replaced the whole wiring harness.
