My 4.9 has plenty of power, no problems with it at all and I pull a trailer every day. It's actually 5.0 but that designation was already used for the V8 so they went with 4.9. I drove my truck (with trailer) 20 miles with the temperature gauge pegged as far hot as it would go, rattling and chattering away until it wouldn't go anymore. The starter even melted. Had a friend pull me home the last mile and when we got there I popped the clutch and it ran beautiful now that it had cooled down.

Which 4 speed do you have? Overdrive or underdrive?

Sean beats the shat outta that truck. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. You should see pictures of it. Pretty hefty trailer for an old truck. Not to mention south florida heat, humidity, and traffic.

I drive an 87' 302, but the I-6's ain't nothing to bitch about. Owned a bunch. I think it pulled my boat a smidge easier too. Both are ok on the roll, but the I-6 got things rolling from a dead stop seemingly w/ less strain.

I used to use my I-6 to take my 32 ft'er to the ramp & launch. 8200 lbs. not counting the trailer. 80 gals. of gas & 125 gals water...I'm not saying it was "liking" it, but it gotter done! The biggest bear was getting the damn thing to stop! If a clutch have been involved, not sure of the outcome there. It was an A/T.
