Default myth or truth??

My buddy told me that grannying a motor is bad for it, and its better for the motor to shift it higher in the rpms around 3k...is this true? If so why? I got an 88 5.0

Ive never heard that. Ive heard revving it up to much not even to red line is bad but Im not really sure.. Either way cant be good. Revving up to much puts more strain and wear and babying it to much might not circulate the oil as well. Just my thoughts

grannying wont hurt it...lugging it will...

drive it how you want...

the lower the rpm you shift the better the mpg will be...as soon as I let out the clutch in 1st gear I shift into 2nd...probably 5mph...I get better mileage doing this then winding 1st gear to 1800-2000rpm before shifting...I shift as soon as I can...

1st to 2nd 5mph

2nd to 3rd 20mph

3rd to 4th 30mph

4th to OD 45mph...then run with it and I got 3.08 gears...

I have a 300, lol. It tops out at 87 MPH and there is no why in hell you will hit that in second gear...

If it's chugging, then that's bad, and running it up high in the range too much is bad too. I'd imagine low rpm cruising with occassional spirited bursts is good
