Don't fear the mystical computer. It makes diagnoses so much easier if you have the interface. Vacuume, compression, relative cylinder power, air flow, fuel flow, leakdown test, spark voltage, timing, valve timing, fuel pressure on each cylinder and a bunch of stuff I haven't learned to use yet. It used to take hours and a box full of special tools to do that stuff. Just remember if there is a code then something wrong. These things all happened before we just didn't have a little light to tell us so we let it get worse before we fixed them.
I don't think he's talking about OBD1 systems for all that neat stuff. OBD2 however, was a quantum leap in diagnostic info availability.

Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switching - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1 (I can't remember if that's the driver or passenger side/ I gotta go, or I'd look it up)
When O2''s pooch, this is the most common type code. They get stuck in the lean switch position...(Now here's the part where you say you replaced that O2 sensor recently/ if that's the case, than something's up w/ fuel delivery specific to cylinder(s) in that bank, would be my next thought)

It doesn't read that way on my scanner, something about manufacturer control air fuel or something, but that is one of the conclusions I have found. Also to clean the MAF. I'll have to try one of those, eventually.

Yes I was talking OBDII. Although OBDI want bad it just didn't know how to talk to is and is too general.
JS you should have no problem with OBDII you already know OBDI and how to use a scanner. If your familiar with Windows type operating systems you just need an interface and a computer. I am planning to buy one soon. The basics are straight forward. It's the detailed history I'm still working on operating.
