Default Locking front diff

Did Ford make a limited slip front differential in our trucks or is that only aftermarket available.

Dana made the axle in the front of our trucks,
they made them for our trucks but I've never came across one in the front from the factory like that. now a 44 from the 70's I've seen come from the factory with them inside.

I had bronco graveyard build me a d44 chunk with the trac lok....I don't suggest it. Works great when you need posi 4x4 but just driving down the road with the hubs locked, in 2wd, it sucks nuts. Takes 5 times more effort to drive. An if the alignment is off it pulls like hell. I wish I had them put an air locker in it.

why are you driving around with the hubs locked in?? that is the point of having lockinghubs.. and dont say because that way you dont have to get out the truck everytime you want to put it in 4x4, that is why they had auto hubs.

Why -not- drive around with the hubs locked in during the winter? I certainly would in Colorado.

it puts the added stress and wear and tear on the whole axle and transfercase. thats why you shouldnt.

is it that bad that you cant get outta the truck for 15 sec??

That's patently ridiculous. The amount of stress added to the front end is negligible. This is also why many newer vehicles don't even bother with unlockable hubs at all.

I'm not saying leave it in all year, but if you're in an environment where you may need it they should be locked in before you get in the drivers seat. That's the entire point of shift on the fly four wheel drive.

Just think about your front driveshaft. For put in locking hubs and expected people to get out and lock them when needed, now think about when you honestly need 4x4 are doing over 45 and with that in mind if your company can save money by not needed to have the driveshafts balanced why would they. Just think that stock driveshaft and those locked hubs on the highway... its only a matter of time before your driveshaft pops up through the floor and says whats up on the highway.

Seriously, you actually wrote 'before your driveshaft pops up through the floor and says whats up on the highway'?

Sorry, but this is nuts. People all around the world leave manual hubs locked in for months at a time. It's not remotely uncommon, and it allows you to do precisely what Ford advertised with their 'shift on the fly' 4wd systems.
